Download

Lumi ships as a universal disk image — one file for both Apple silicon and Intel.

1. Open the latest release.
2. Download Lumi_<version>_universal.dmg.
3. Open the disk image and drag Lumi into Applications.
4. Eject the disk image.

Released builds are signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens them without a right-click-to-open detour and without a Gatekeeper warning.

First launch

Open Lumi from Applications or Spotlight. Two things happen that are worth expecting:

• No Dock icon and no window. Lumi is a menu-bar app. The icon in the menu bar is how you reach settings, and it is the only way in.
• macOS asks for Accessibility. Most of what Lumi does is watching and synthesising keystrokes, which macOS gates behind one permission. Granting it is the next page — Permissions.

Launching at login

General → Start at login registers a login item with macOS; turning it off removes it again. Shortcuts and the Hyper key only work while Lumi runs, so this is the switch that makes them survive a restart.

A launch at login opens no window. A launch you made yourself opens settings. That is deliberate: Lumi tells the two apart so that logging in does not put a settings window in front of you every morning.

Updating

Lumi checks for updates on its own, and About → Check for updates asks straight away. An update is downloaded, verified against the signing key compiled into your copy, and applied on relaunch.

You can also install a newer version straight over the top from the disk image — the settings, snippets and flows all live outside the app bundle, so nothing is lost.

Uninstalling

Quit Lumi from the menu bar, then drag Lumi.app from Applications to the Trash. Two things survive that, because they are yours rather than the app's:

Remove the first by hand if you want it gone. Remove the second with the − button under the Accessibility list.
